Hampden has evolved into a favored location for college students, recent graduates and emerging artists. Hampden was incorporated into the city of Baltimore in 1888. Located in the Jones Falls Valley, Hampden originally served as a bedroom community for the once-booming textile industry. The mills, which were in operation from 1822 to 1972, provided the community's primary source of income and employment for more than 100 years. Now they provide spaces for offices and artisans. And the surrounding area includes the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University, Homewood Campus.

Culturally, this area is home to the Baltimore Museum of Art plus the entire spectrum of art and kitsch along "The Avenue," 36 th Street in Hampden. Not only that but local favorite restaurants and college-town hangouts abound. Hampden and the Johns Hopkins area is a convenient, active and safe place to call home.
